This Sauvignon Blanc opens with classic aromas of grapefruit, gooseberry, and ripe melon are dominant in the glass. Flavors trend tropical, led by papaya and mango, followed by green apple and kiwi fruit, with a hint of rhubarb. Crisp and clean, well balanced with zippy acidity, there’s a touch of tartness in this medium-weight wine meant to be enjoyed on its own as an aperitif or as a complement to dishes like Shrimp and Boston Bibb Lettuce Salad, or Grilled Vegetable Pasta.
A near perfect season, welcomed after several tense vintages, began with abundant February rains followed by drying sun and weather that allowed for even flowering and bud break. The slightly later start was followed by consistently ideal weather, with harvest for Rose in early September. Generally normal to heavier fruit with great flavor and complexity will be the hallmark of the season.
Sauvignon Blanc from the Calistoga Ranch (85%) and Larson Ranch (15%) are kept separate prior to blending for 10 months after fermentation in 100% stainless steel to retain freshness and crisp acidity. The wine does not go through malolactic fermentation.
Mark Beringer, great-great-grandson of Beringer Vineyards' founding brother Jacob Beringer, was immersed in wine from the moment he was born in the heart of the Napa Valley. As the direct descendant to Beringer's first winemaker and one of the most iconic family names in Napa Valley wine history, he knew from a young age that he would follow in the footsteps of his ancestors. As a young man he spent many hours working in his family's wine store in Saint Helena, expanding his knowledge of wine as well as gaining an appreciation for wines outside of the famous region he has always called home.
