2013 Beringer Quantum Red Blend Napa Valley

Description

Description

Quantum is the smallest unit of energy achievable in science. Each tiny particle holds unique potential to contribute to a larger being. When these units combine, each quantum adds its specific essence, resulting in a system of great expression and complexity. Beringer recognizes that each grape varietal offers unique flavor and structure, and that each vineyard and block of vines contributes yet another expression of those varietals. Beringer farms a unique collection of remarkable vineyard sites in Napa Valley. The Quantum blend highlights the individual personalities of each varietal, creating a wine with balance, structure and exceptional flavor.

Tasting Note

The 2013 Quantum offers aromatic notes of dark cherry, espresso, tobacco, and leather. Notes of ripe plum, vanilla, and boysenberry jam are accented by subtle brown spice. It is a rich, fleshy wine with silken tannins and a lush, rounded profile.

Vintage

The 2013 vintage began with a warm, dry spring and relatively early bud break. Summer was notably consistent with even, warm temperatures throughout. Harvest began quite early in August, and by September the majority of whites and lighter reds were completely off the vines. Cool yet sunny weather in October allowed the final grapes on the vine to linger and develop great phenolic and flavor maturities while maintaining steady sugar levels.

Vineyard

Beringer farms a unique and irreplaceable collection of remarkable vineyard sites. With the Quantum blend, the wine highlights the individual properties of each varietal to create a wine with balance, structure and flavor. Overall, it was a high quality crop that was above average in quantity. The grapes for the 2013 Quantum were harvested between September 17th and October 21st.

Winemaking

In order to create a blend that highlights the outstanding terroir of Beringer's many Napa Valley vineyards, our winemaking team kept each vineyard lot separate from the moment the grapes were harvested, until final blending. In creating Quantum, the team was also excited to showcase an interesting mix of varietals with the foundation of Cabernet Sauvignon, the backbone of the Beringer portfolio. The majority of fruit comes from Howell Mountain along with a smaller portion from vineyards along the valley floor. The Merlot contributes round mouthfeel and soft tannins, Petite Sirah adds spice complexity, and Malbec adds silkiness and color to the final blend. The wines were aged in French oak (60% new barrels) for sixteen months, and then in bottle for six months.
