Tasting Notes

Deep ruby-purple in the glass, the 2019 Winery Exclusive malbec delivers well rounded blue fruit notes which are evident immediately upon first pour. Fresh blueberry notes mix with aromas of currant, clove, violets and plum. Darker notes of vanilla and oak are apparent after a few minutes in the glass. On the palate, the fruit and barrel notes mesh perfectly with good acidity, tying it all together with the round tannins. The structure is full, but not overly oppressive, and lends necessary support to the fruit flavors throughout the long finish. This malbec is can be enjoyed immediately with a bit of decanting, but for those who decide to cellar, this wine will reward for many years to come.

Winemaking

Mark Beringer - Winemaker

Mark Beringer, great-great-grandson of Beringer Vineyards' founding brother Jacob Beringer, was immersed in wine from the moment he was born in the heart of the Napa Valley. As the direct descendant to Beringer's first winemaker and one of the most iconic family names in Napa Valley wine history, he knew from a young age that he would follow in the footsteps of his ancestors. As a young man he spent many hours working in his family's wine store in Saint Helena, expanding his knowledge of wine as well as gaining an appreciation for wines outside of the famous region he has always called home.

Vintage

Abundant late winter rains gave the soils much needed moisture to kick off the 2019 growing season. The long, warm summer saw few extreme heat events and the typical foggy mornings set the stage for producing vibrant and expressive wines. The long and relatively mild finish to the season helped to preserve freshness and finesse in the fruit with extended hangtime producing great color, flavor, structure and tannin. Overall, the season was marked by exceptional fruit development with bright acidity, producing an outstanding vintage of wine.
