The St. Helena Home Vineyard is largely responsible for the establishment of Beringer Vineyards because this site, situated around the present-day winery, first attracted founder Jacob Beringer to the property in 1875. The vineyard is formed of a sloped alluvial fan of rock and gravelly soils with little capacity to hold water. Planted mostly to Cabernet Sauvignon, its fruit has been a key component of the Private Reserve Cabernet since 1982, and is a key component of Beringer 8th Maker Cabernet Sauvignon. St. Helena Home Vineyard Cabernet is characterized by classic Cabernet flavors of berries and black cherries layered with licorice and spice and a fleshy mid-palate. Careful attention is paid to vineyard blocks, which are kept separate and vinified with a goal of extracting maximum flavor.
"This has lots of blueberry, blackberry and granite undertone. Full-bodied, tight and lightly chewy. Linear and so long. Love the light austerity and cleanliness at the finish. Drink or hold." - James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, May 2018
"Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon St Helena Home Vineyard has a pure cassis and baked plum-scented nose with underlying licorice, dark chocolate, tar and pencil lead hints. Full-bodied, taut and firmly structured with chewy tannins, the muscular fruit comes off restrained and earthy at this youthful stage, finishing on a minerally note. Forget this one in the cellar for 2-3 years and drink it over the next 15+." - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate, October 2017
