"A very pretty sauvignon with sliced pear, apple, some lime and hints of cooked fennel. Medium-bodied, creamy and fresh with a delicious finish. Solid white. Drink now.” - James Suckling
“The 2019 Sauvignon Blanc was aged for six months in 20% new oak, 50% neutral oak and 30% stainless steel. It opens with vibrant key lime pie, pink grapefruit and underripe pineapple scents with touches of wild thyme and elderflower. The medium-bodied palate delivers mouth-coating citrus flavors with loads of mineral sparks and a racy backbone, finishing long and minerally. 9,011 cases were made.” - Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW
This second vintage of Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc is bright, vibrant and refreshing offering the variety’s classic citrus fruit, lemongrass and white floral nuances. Driven by a linear focus of acidity and a steely minerality that adds to the wine’s crispness and complexity, there are layers of flavor featuring white peach, Meyer lemon and grapefruit, alongside hints of white floral jasmine, ginger and white pepper with a round, soft texture on the palate leading to a lengthy mouthwatering finish. Pretty, delicate and savory, this Sauvignon Blanc is a beautiful expression of Napa Valley fruit, and the perfect pairing to sunny, warm days. Enjoy on its own or pair with a wide variety of your favorite seafood, chicken or Mediterranean dishes.
The 2019 harvest started one to two weeks later than previous years, mostly due to February rains, but because the vines were in their winter dormancy, it did not affect the 2019 crop. Spring continued to be wet with some rain during flowering, followed by cool temperatures that allowed the grapes to mature gradually. The grapes ripened nicely with beautiful maturity and winemakers were pleased with the full flavors, vibrant acidity and superb balance of the 2019 fruit. Wildfires in October did not impact this year’s harvest as the vast majority of the grapes were already brought in, resulting in a crop size pretty much on par with previous years. The resulting 2019 wines are of very high quality with concentrated flavors, color and excellent acidity, especially for varieties like Sauvignon Blanc.
Our Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from two distinct vineyards in the Oakville and Stags Leap District AVAs, with a majority coming from Gamble Ranch in Oakville and a very small portion from Stags Landing vineyard in Stags Leap. Located in the heart of Napa Valley, Oakville is the optimal location for growing Sauvignon Blanc, providing sufficient sun exposure for ripening with a diversity of soil types that creates balance and acidity. Sauvignon Blanc planted here shows flavor complexity and refined aromatic expression, ideal for our bottling. At Stags Landing, the vineyard is near the Napa River and contributes richer, riper toned Sauvignon Blanc fruit, as well as the distinctive minerality found in Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc. Winemaker Christophe Paubert waited 10 years for the perfect conditions in 2018 to produce the inaugural vintage of this Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc, a tribute to his home growing region of Bordeaux, France.
For Christophe Paubert, Winemaker and General Manager at Stags’ Leap Winery, the identity of a wine is found through the terroir. Christophe’s career has spanned the industry from sales to winemaking, and his impressive background includes positions at Chateau d’Yquem and Gruaud-Larose as well as projects in Chile, Spain and Washington State. But it was the terroir of Stags’ Leap that drew him to California.
