Beaulieu Vineyard Reserve wines are handcrafted from the finest grapes of the vintage, focusing on our premier estates in Rutherford, Carneros and other Napa Valley appellations. For more than 100 years, Beaulieu Vineyard has set the benchmark for rich, classic Napa Valley wines. Our legacy honors the marriage between state-of-the-art technology and gentle, traditional winemaking methods, a combination that enhances the expression of our remarkable vineyard terroir.
On the expressive nose, aromas of black cherry and sweet sage are present alongside sweet baking spice notes from the delicate oak integration, leading to flavors of ripe plum and boysenberry, followed by a plush structure, and finishing with soft round tannins.
The Napa Valley region enjoyed a stunning, near picture-perfect 2018 growing season including good winter rains, mild spring weather and steady temperatures throughout that allowed for even flowering and bud break. These ideal growing conditions were followed by a cool, even and slow-paced harvest which allowed the winery to vinify wines at a gentle pace. The resulting 2018 wines are of very high quality with plenty of concentrated flavors, color and excellent acidity.
This Reserve Malbec is sourced from a combination of estate vineyards in Rutherford as well as warmer Calistoga vineyards in the north and a small portion of mountain fruit from higher elevation vineyards in Napa Valley. We specifically selected premier vineyard blocks situated on well-draining soils within Napa Valley, promoting smaller berry size and higher skin-to-juice ratio, crafting a superior quality wine.
