Located in the Sonoma Valley at the foot of Sugar Loaf Ridge, Chateau St. Jean is a 250-acre estate with 90 acres planted to wine grapes. The St. Jean Estate includes a very small site planted to Viognier. The intent of our Viognier is to allow the classic varietal fruit flavors to show through a framework of subtle oak and bright crisp acidity. Notice the intense fruit notes of nectarine and honeysuckle with melon and tropical fruit notes.
Fragrant and redolent with inviting aromas of ripe pear, white peach and tangerine with touches of jasmine. Mouth-filling and medium in texture with a solid acid backbone and fully ripe flavors of melon, nectarine and guava. A hint of spice lingers on the finish, revealing a fully formed expression of Viognier’s varietal character and an expression of our St. Jean estate vineyard in Sonoma Valley.
Located in Sonoma Valley at the foot of Sugar Loaf Ridge, Chateau St. Jean is a 250-acre estate with approximately 90 acres planted to wine grapes. The St. Jean Estate vineyard includes a very small block planted to Viognier, and the wine is produced in limited quantities only during those vintages when the fruit expression is exceptional.
After harvest, the grapes were whole cluster pressed and the majority of the juice (81%) was tank fermented to retain the core, fruit-forward flavors. The balance of the blend was fermented and aged for nine months in 100% seasoned French oak barrels. The overall intent for our Viognier is allowing the classic varietal fruit flavors and characteristics to shine through a framework of subtle oak.
