"The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Georges de Latour Private Reserve is a drop-dead gorgeous beauty. Freshly cut flowers, mint, spices, licorice and graphite all burst from the glass as the 2010 shows off its personality. While some of Beaulieu's 2010s are ripe and flashy, the Georges de Latour is wonderfully fresh and alive in the glass, not to mention absolutely classic in feel. Graphite, violets and pencil shavings linger on the close. The 2010 has captured every bit of the potential I sensed last year." - Antonio Galloni, 11/2013

Wine Advocate

"Produced from 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Malbec and 3% Petit Verdot, the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve Georges de Latour was aged in new French oak for 22 months. Deep garnet-purple colored, it reveals notes of baked plums, dried blueberries, raisin cake and Chinese five spice with touches of tobacco, dried mint and cast iron pan. Full-bodied with a solid, grainy structure, it has a lively backbone and long, dried berry and spice-laced finish. " - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, 5/2019

Wine Spectator

"Delightfully pure and flavorful, with generous plum, blueberry and blackberry notes, framed by solid yet friendly tannins. Most impressive on the finish, where the flavors sail on." - James Laube, 11/2013

Tasting Note

Combining elegance and power, the 2010 Georges de Latour Cabernet Sauvignon opens with deep, ripe aromas of crushed blackberries, dark cherries, bittersweet chocolate and violet. The highly saturated, black-fruit flavors echo the aromas as they expand across the palate and persist on the finish. Nuances of toffee and toasted oak spices, from aging in 100 percent new French oak barrels, add even more complexity. Firm, muscular tannins frame the flavors and enhance the rich texture, while giving promise of cellar-worthiness.

The 2010 vintage had the latest onset to harvest in several decades. This was due to above-average rainfall and cool temperatures that persisted into May, followed by a mostly cool, foggy summer that slowed fruit maturity. But just as we started worrying that the grapes would never ripen, Mother Nature surprised us with heat spells to boost their flavors and sugar levels. The long hangtime and full maturity added up to exceptionally richly flavored wines with exquisite balance.

Napa Valley AVA

Napa Valley

We hand selected grapes from the finest Cabernet Sauvignon vines in our No. 1 and No. 2, originally planted by Georges de Latour in the early1900s. We focus on clones that yield small berries with the high skin-to-juice ratio needed to make intense, long-lived wines. These chosen vines are deeply rooted in the well-draining alluvial fan soils of the Rutherford American Viticultural Area, considered one of the finest regions of Napa Valley for Cabernet Sauvignon.

At our state-of-the-art winery, dedicated exclusively to Georges de Latour Cabernet Sauvignon, we hand sorted the destemmed berries to retain only the highest quality fruit. Winemaker Jeffrey Stambor then fermented one-third of the grapes in new French oak barrels for early integration of fruit and oak character and to enhance the dense, rich texture; the balance was fermented in stainless steel and oak tanks. Following extended skin contact and in-barrel malolactic fermentation, the wine was pressed and returned to barrels for aging. After 19 months, Jeffrey blended the Cabernet Sauvignon with a small amount of Malbec and Petit Verdot so that the aromas and flavors of the three varietals could marry during the final three months of aging.

Jeffrey Stambor - Former Winemaker

Jeffrey Stambor joined the Beaulieu Vineyard winemaking team in 1989 as a viticulturist/enologist. As the current director of winemaking, he leads production of the winery’s world-renowned Georges de Latour Cabernet Sauvignon, and presided over the harvest and vinification of 2013 Rarity – the extremely limited release Cabernet Sauvignon blend. He is only the fourth director of winemaking in Beaulieu Vineyard’s history, and the third to craft Georges de Latour Private Reserve over the 77-year history of that iconic wine following Andre Tchelistcheff, the original winemaker, and his immediate predecessor, Joel Aiken.
